Abstract
This article presents didactic approaches to financial literacy using the example of the CurVe project (debt counselling as a starting point for basic education – curricular integration and transitions) which was launched at the German Institute for Adult Education (DIE) in March 2013. The project analyses the connection between excessive debt and basic educational needs. Its focus is on participative didactics and its goals include the strengthening of basic education through the conceptualisation of financial literacy, the development and testing of strategies for addressing people in need of basic education in a debt counselling context as well as the professionalisation of adult educators and disseminators. The article describes theoretical considerations and the background, development and implementation of the project, which aims to show what participatory development of adult and further education offerings could look like. Finally, the challenges of participative didactic approaches are discussed in the conclusion.
