This book provides information on the current situation of Adult and Continuing Education in Switzerland, on the legal basis, the institutions and their staff, range of courses and participation rates, methods of financing and international contacts. The book also contains a historical overview of the development of adult education. A final chapter outlines trends and perspectives that will shape the further education sector in the coming years. This is a revised edition of the portrait. Since the edition of 2008, the Swiss adult education sector has undergone significant changes. The professionalisation process has progressed, issues such as basic skills, validation procedures or international qualification frameworks have been put on the political agenda. And the national law on adult education, which passed in June 2014, redefines the legal framework in which adult learning is situated. The development which has taken place in the last ten years will have a considerable impact on the further development of adult education. The portrait provides an overview of the educational landscape in Switzerland, showing the directions in which it evolves. It is aimed at people who work in further education or are interested in this field of education.
