The OWL project is a research and development (R&D) project funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research with a duration of 4 and a half years (April 2016 - October 2020).

During its lifetime, it is the goal of OWL to enhance wb-web, the information and networking portal of the German Insitute of Adult Education (DIE) with learning opportunities for adult educators that encourage skills acquisition and pedagogical competence development. This equires pedagogically sound content development and technical implementation in order to fulfill the needs of the target group.

The resulting online web-based learning space should contribute to the professional development of educational personnel. We will focus mainly on two different perspectives of professionalisation: First, we will consult several industry partners to produce contents which are based on international quality standards for educational staff and on empirically based teaching theories. Secondly, based on these teaching theories, we will interconnect competence development processes to pedagogical action fields: this way it is possible for the learner to interact problem- and practicebased with the provided learning contents.

Target group of the project are around 530 000 teaching people in Germany who work as course leaders, trainers, lecturers, learning facilitators or advisors in all fields and areas of adult and further education.
