Abstract
Zum Themenschwerpunkt »DIY – Do It Yourself« Ob Stricken, Fotografieren oder Brot backen: Selbermachen ist angesagt. Gelernt wird es nicht nur in der Erwachsenenbildung, sondern auch mithilfe von Ratgeberliteratur oder über Youtube. Dieses handwerkliche Lernen erfolgt bisher unbeachtet von der erwachsenenpädagogischen Diskussion – zu Unrecht. In diesem Heft gehen wir verschiedenen Fragen nach: Wer lernt was und an welchem Ort? Wie viel Anleitung benötigt und verträgt Selbermachen? Bestätigt oder durchbricht die Nutzung der Angebote durch Männer und Frauen Geschlechterstereotype? Gibt es eine Didaktik des Handwerks, die abseits der institutionalisierten Erwachsenenbildung gedeiht?

Do-it-yourself literature opens up a broad autodidactic field - though explicit references to "learning" are hardly relevant. In the light of a complex constellation of a contemporary production of knowledge and values, the repertoire of adult education is capable of taking a critical look at the postulated performance of do-it-yourself literature, as well as (re)discovering dimensions such as reactions, physicality or emotions of the learning self.

The article examines the development in demand for the independently creative area of cultural adult education. It also focuses on stakeholders and developments of a new conceptual meaning. The authors particularly call the gender role for independently creative programmes into question and develop hypotheses to explain the dominant proportion of women.
