“Reflections on Self-Education” is dedicated to Rolf Arnold on the occasion of his 60th birthday. Like hardly any other representative in the field of continuing educational science, over the past decades Rolf Arnold has provided impulses for the reflection on adult teaching and learning e.g. based on his contributions to constructivist education, interpretive paradigms as well as empowerment didactics. His approach has developed continuously and is now regarded as systemic-constructivist education. Whoever gives the impulse for reflection and explores new paths is generally the subject of criticism. Rolf Arnold’s work indicates that he not only accepted and evaluated but also incorporated criticism in his continuously developed approach. The reports in this book revolve around the current, incentive and innovative approach of a systemic-constructivist education as represented by Rolf Arnold. It covers organizational development and coaching, emotions and subjects, vocational training and continuing education, didactics and methodology, target groups and learners in continuing education. All topics are subjected to a critical evaluation regarding the approach’s extent as well as its contribution to a better comprehension of continuing education. All authors are well-known representatives of vocational training and continuing education: Klaus Ahlheim, Christina Buschle, Peter Faulstich, Harald Geißler, Wiltrud Gieseke, Philip Gonon, Antonius Lipsmeier, Ekkehard Nuissl, Henning Pätzold, Ortfried Schäffter, Horst Siebert, Rudolf Tippelt, Christine Zeuner. The reflexive discussion on continuing education from the perspective of Rolf Arnold is supplemented by an interview which was conducted by Arnold’s predecessor at the Technical University of Kaiserslautern, as well as a compilation of the jubilee’s publications, which account in quantity and quality for his significant relevance in the field.
