The author presents first-hand and personal accounts of what popular education looks like in a classroom. Barbara Bee has had over 30 years teaching experience in adult education programs with poor and disadvantaged learners. Virtuality is not the essence of computer-based learning environments: any learning environment contains elements of virtuality in so far as it concerns itself with representations of reality. Even though the difference between computer-based and traditional settings in this respect is one of degree rather than of substance, conditions at the extreme end of the virtuality scale call for a change in learning arrangements. Both of them are difficult to estimate in regard to their transparency, penetrability and support of labour market mobility. Enterprises and educational institutes seem to be different in their logic of action concerning their educational and qualification achievements in the society. …
