On the long journey to a Benefit Contributive Scientific Didactics Horst Siebert and Johannes Weinberg’s texts on didactic issues of adult education which will be looked at closely, cover almost the whole publication period of REPORT. Against this background, the author addresses the question of what contributions the selected texts and, thus the journal itself, made to the development of adult education science and which discussions within the discipline are to be found in it. The author p…
The author has collected self-reports of functional illiterates and questioned them on their “joy potential“. Three qualitatively set up analyses of the 1990s serve as sources. The contribution shows that the participation in literacy courses can cause a significant increase of self-confidence by overcoming experiences of deficit. The experience of attention and support is seen as encouraging and it contributes considerably to take over responsibility for one’s own life.
From the principle of the regulated occupation to the supremacy of certification: fields of conflict en route to the German qualifications framework (DQR) This article addresses the central difficulties observed in the search for consensus during the current development of a national German qualifications framework (Deutscher Qualifikationsrahmen, DQR). As well as the difficulty in blending in the German national “dual system” of vocational training with the EQF, the main difficulties identi…
Participation in adult education and learning motivation In this introductory contribution firstly the history of the educational sociology of research in adult in Germany is reconstructed in keywords. The current discussion on social exclusion/inclusion is scetched here and further deepened in the following contributions of this book. In the final chapter of this contribution the results of an educational biographical study are presented. Here nine types of participation in adult education …
A video-study of language courses in adult education analyses the transformation of a learning side into a pedagogical space. The definition of pedagogical space is linked to the theory of social space. Space is thus viewed as an arrangement and perception between human beings and social goods. This recasting of social space as a pedagogical space specifies social space to include two additional elements: the representation of knowledge and pedagogical media. For this study, the transformation …
Participating in social movements can support educational success and stabilise educational paths. Ingrid Miethe draws this conclusion after conducting a study with 85 biographic narrative interviews with successful education achievers. The article presents five aspects to illustrate the connection of being involved in movements and educational success.
The internet is increasingly used as a space for learning. Guidance platforms, blogs, and video tutorials are available online. Self-made is not only the subject but also the designed communication process. The authors pursue the issue of possible reactions of the institutionalised adult education to the proceeding development and potential contributions.
Functional illiteracy is often perceived as being connected to a strong taboo. Nevertheless new empirical results show, that there is a widespread personal knowledge about functional illiterates. About 40?% of adults know someone who shows low performance in literacy. This knowledge theoretically offers great potential to inform those performing low in reading and/or writing about possibilities in Adult Basic Education. This potential however is by far not fully exploited. By the majority those…
