Abstract
Facing todays technological development, one of the central issues further education has to deal with is how to support employees in handling the changes their work activities are subjected to and in shaping these changes. Six company case studies were conducted in logistics and in stationary retailing in order to understand how work activities change on the operative level and what effects might be observed regarding the employees’ competence development. Based on a subject-related approach the study shows that even under highly technical conditions and in areas of work that are more likely to perform executive functions, qualified acting in the context of work needs opportunities of comprehensive sensory perception, experience-based action and scientifically oriented problem solving. An extended competence profile that takes into account the specific features of digitisation is on the one hand the starting point for guidelines for personnel-oriented further education practice, in which participatory development of demand is an essential component, and on the other hand offers impulses for organisational development in which such further training can have an effect.
