Our aim is to contribute to the personal development of adults, their democratic participation in society, and their employability. As a leading academic, professional and policy institution in the field of adult and continuing education in Germany, we are committed to addressing issues relating to lifelong learning for adults.

Our research focuses on teaching and learning processes, continuing education organisations and their programme planning, and the framework conditions of the continuing education system. We take our cue from current and future societal challenges, conducting application-oriented basic research in line with the Leibniz Association's principles.

Our findings strengthen the professionalisation of continuing education practice, inform the ongoing dialogue with practitioners, and support evidence-based education policy.
