How can organisational structures, programmes and learning opportunities in literacy and basic education be developed in a professional, quality-focused and effective manner that is needs-based and conducive to learning?
What learning outcomes and benefits can participants in literacy courses achieve under optimal conditions for trialling and implementation?
In the field of literacy and basic education, a body of knowledge has emerged regarding target groups, the professional development of teachers, and the specific challenges of educational practice. However, existing 'best practice' concepts, methods and tools still largely exist in isolation from one another. Furthermore, little is known about the impact of these approaches on participants. Through a comprehensive evaluation study, the German Institute for Adult Education (DIE) aims to improve practice in the field of literacy and basic education by generating further insights. The study will bring together existing 'best practice' approaches, such as those relating to engaging with target groups, using digital learning media, and providing diagnostic support measures. These approaches are situated at different organisational levels. The study will then test these approaches jointly in pilot institutions and evaluate them in terms of their effectiveness. Particular attention will be paid to developing written language skills among course participants.
The consultancy and training programme consists of three interconnected areas: organisational consultancy for senior managers; further training for programme planners; and further training for teachers.
Implementing and providing the integrated counselling and skills development programme contributes to the professionalisation of literacy and basic education practices.
