The Leibniz Association promotes open access, supporting the free exchange of quality-assured research findings in digital formats without barriers to access. Direct access via open access increases research efficiency, supports international and interdisciplinary cooperation, and enhances the visibility and citation frequency of publications. This maximises the benefits of publicly funded research. With this in mind, the DIE also encourages its staff to publish their research findings via open access. This is based on the DIE’s Open Access Policy.
The DIE provides open access formats for publishing research findings and working papers, as well as information infrastructures, such as the DIE repository, to make academic literature freely available. The institute’s repository hosts journal articles, books, and other open-access formats, as well as books and journals made available to the DIE by collaborating partners for free publication.
The DIE is committed to developing scholar-led publication infrastructures within the Leibniz Association's working contexts.
The DIE encourages its staff to contribute to open-access journals as editors or peer reviewers, and to negotiate a barrier-free, worldwide and immediate right of use to archive research outputs in a repository when concluding publishing contracts.
The DIE advises its staff on all legal and technical aspects of open-access publishing, including secondary use rights, licences, copyright, and predatory publishing.
The DIE promotes the dissemination of Open Educational Resources (OER). The DIE is committed to providing free, easy access to high-quality educational materials to improve the quality of adult teaching and learning and the professional development of practitioners. It supports its staff in preparing and making the results of their work available in the form of Open Educational Resources wherever possible and appropriate.
