Journal for Research on Adult Education

The Journal for Research on Adult Education is the leading academic journal in the field of adult and continuing education in the German-speaking world. Its research findings contribute to national and international academic discourse.

The Journal

  • presents high-quality research findings on adult learning,
  • focuses the academic discourse on adult education and learning,
  • promotes exchange with all academic disciplines conducting research into adult education,
  • contributes to the integration of German research on adult education into the international context,
  • and also opens up new horizons for future research.

Since 2015, ZfW is published as fully open access journal by Springer Nature. Open Access is enabled by financial support by DIE. Editorial staff is affiliated at the DIE. ZfW publishes three issues per year (April, August, and December).

The journal's metadata is listed on the following indices: Google Scholar, CNKI, DOAJ, EBSCO Discovery Service, EBSCO Education Source, EBSCO TOC Premier, OCLC and Summon by ProQuest.

The journal is open for articles in German and English. All articles are accompanied by an abstract published in both English and German.
