Large parts of adult education are not being reached through relevant laws at all anymore. Thus a factual deregulation is the consequence. This loss of scope faces a growing provision profundity of those laws thar are tangent to the adult education area and that have been revised lately. The author draws attention to this ambivalent context by means of the most important legal basis of adult education: the adult education laws of the German states and the social statute book III (SGB III).

The article refers to the demand for adult economic literacy as well as its objectives. Present demands require intensification. These demands are evident in the behaviour of educational consumers and providers, and even more so in the social expectations expressed by all relevant groups. The text concludes with a reference to the particular public responsibility to provide suitable programmes.
Various needs and requirements need to be taken into account for developing urban educational spaces. At the same time, the demand for cooperation between educational and cultural institutions creates obvious and concealed competition between educational and cultural planners. Based on a scientific project support, this article provides guidance on the causes and handling of potential competition.
The article provides an insight of the opportunities and challenges of analysing spatial aspects in continuing education including the various concepts of spatial references. Regional continuing education characteristics are presented based on initial findings of the German Continuing Education Atlas.
The article focuses on the presentation and commentary of the PIAAC study in the German press. Whereas the interpretations varied in the journalistic and political area, the associations and interest groups agree on the increased necessity for investments in the field of adult education.
Using the documentary method according to Ralf Bohnsack, it is shown in this essay how memory in communicative processes with senior citizens develops. Amateur photographs were used to discuss with the seniors. The conversations took place in two small groups and were analyzed in comparison. Furthermore, the statements of the interviewees were evaluated and discussed in the light of relevant literature.
