In the educational facilities of the State Sports Associations of the Bundesländer, open adult education is implemented which serves the goals of formation of personality and enlightenment, furthers maturity, and cultivates social competences, and which is - albeit decreasingly - publicly funded. Bildungsberatung gilt seit Langem als Eckpfeiler eines funktionierenden Systems lebenslangen Lernens. Die Frage nach den Wirkungen von Beratung ist indes noch nicht gut erforscht. So rücken Fragen der Nutzenstiftung von Beratung in den Mittelpunkt: Welche Wirkungen hat Weiterbildungsberatung auf die Weiterbildungsbeteiligung? Nutzen Bildungsanbieter Erkenntnisse aus der Beratung zur Entwicklung ihrer Programmplanung? Welche Zufriedenheit generieren Beratungsstellen bei den Ratsuchenden?

On the occasion of the passing of the North Rhine-Westphalian budget for 2004/2005 the author takes a close look at the Land’s support of adult education. From the viewpoint of a Catholic association he draws a dark picture of financial means continuously on the decrease that gives rise to the impression that the constitutionally guaranteed promotion of adult education is a model up for discontinuation.
