Es gibt in Deutschland bisher nur wenige und verstreute Daten, die das System der Weiterbildung aus der Perspektive der Anbieter beschreiben. Der Verbund Weiterbildungsstatistik unter Koordination des Deutschen Instituts für Erwachsenenbildung (DIE) tritt in diese Lücke und legt eine jährliche Statistik der angeschlossenen Einrichtungen und ihres Angebots vor. Im Folgenden werden zunächst die verfügbaren Daten beschrieben, bevor zwei Beispiele für inhaltliche Auswertungen gegeben werden.
Die Autoren bündeln aktuelle Diskussionsergebnisse über Bedarfe und Perspektiven der Erwachsenenbildungsforschung. Teacher training responds to the PISA results with professional qualification of the teaching staff in the areas of deficiency (language and reading competence, mathematical-scientific knowledge, competence in diagnosis and support). Apart from that it must also help school as a system to evolve in manifold ways (obligatory training, school autonomy, staff development, co-operation of schools in matters of instruction, systematical planning of training measures).
The DIE publishes recent research findings from empirical studies on the continuing education system and its educational institutions under the label "DIE Survey.
