There are voices at the political level, which call for a relocating of finances into sections of early education. This article demonstrates the high relevance of public stimuli in opposition to such claims. Therefore, results of the Brandenburg-Study will be presented, in which the usage of continuous training vouchers have been quantitatively and qualitatively researched. It will be demonstrated how in specific vocational and private phases within the lives of women in health and social secto…

For over 40 years, the „Bibliography of Adult Education“ has been published. This service of the DIE (German Institute of Adult Education) has now been changed into a more modern online format. Changes in the managerial staff of (educational) organizations bring about times of transition with multiple challenges. How can members of the staff be prepared to assume leadership positions? How can new personnel be found and attracted to stay? How can the induction period and the effective transfer of knowledge be organized? To successfully meet all these challenges, a forward-looking strategy is needed, which can be used as groundwork for concrete measures regarding managerial changes. Thi…
The following report offers an insight on the theoretical and empirical issue of cultural adult education. It is understood as an institution for the refinement of the aesthetic senses which, according to Welsch, can easily become anesthetic – a situation of suspended sensitivity. A second empirical approach presents the current provisions systematized by three “Portals of Participation“. Cultural educational provisions may be attributed to the “systematic-receptive type“, the “independent-crea…
In a small “philosophy story of joy“, the author bends a bow from Aristotle across Kant to utilitarianism. Aristotle had defined joy as that, where a person finds himself. Kant on the other hand accents, that a person can only be satisfied with himself who lives in unison with his moral beliefs. With the utilitarian the author retains: “It is not questionable, whether we are all strive for joy, but what joy is.“ Here the task of (adult) education affiliates: It must first enable people to judge…
The article examines the development in demand for the independently creative area of cultural adult education. It also focuses on stakeholders and developments of a new conceptual meaning. “Reflections on Self-Education” is dedicated to Rolf Arnold on the occasion of his 60th birthday. Like hardly any other representative in the field of continuing educational science, over the past decades Rolf Arnold has provided impulses for the reflection on adult teaching and learning e.g. based on his contributions to constructivist education, interpretive paradigms as well as empowerment didactics. His approach has developed continuously and is now regarded as systemic-constructivist educa…
The study Competencies in Later Life (CiLL) provides, for the first time, information about central basic competencies of older adults. In doing so, two research approaches are combined. First, CiLL extends the OECD Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC) to the age group 66 to 80 and analyses correlations between socio-demographic factors and basic competencies assessed with the PIAAC instrument. Second, a qualitative research part shows subjective opinions of …
