Im vorliegenden Heft werden in gebotener Kürze einige neuere Ansätze und Ergebnisse der Teilnahme- und Motivationsforschung in der Weiterbildung vorgestellt. Die Zahl der Forschungsarbeiten zum Thema ist insgesamt begrenzt, auch wenn es noch einige weitere Arbeiten außer den hier präsentierten gibt: Teilnahme-, Beteiligungs- und Motivationsforschung sind in der Regel empirisch aufwändige und teure Verfahren. Umso wichtiger ist es, dass hier durchaus neuere, interessante Ergebnisse vorliegen.
The International PIAAC study has collected data on competencies of adults in three domains in 25 countries, in many of them for the first time ever. The article provides an overview of central terms, main aims and the methodological approach of this OECD study. It also discusses its potentials and limitations. This issue will address various aspects bringing together academic discourse and practical work. The authors will in particular focus on social issues.

While belief research has become an integral part of the educational research agenda, it has been uneven. One neglected area is the beliefs of adult education teachers. Focusing on five such teachers working in adult basic education and teaching numeracy in Switzerland, this exploratory study uses different data to describe their beliefs about numeracy and its teaching.
