Mit zunehmendem Alter steigt die Wahrscheinlichkeit, kritische Lebensereignisse zu erfahren. Zugleich sind hinsichtlich der Persönlichkeit besondere Entwicklungen möglich – und damit verbunden auch die Fähigkeit, solche kritischen Lebensereignisse zu bewältigen. Das Hochwasser, das zwischen dem 15. und 17. Juli über weite Teile Deutschlands hereingebrochen ist, hatte verheerende Folgen. Die französische Universitätsausdehnung ist eng an diverse Bewegungen gebunden. Adressaten des Programms waren Gewerkschaftler und Aktivisten der Arbeiterklasse, die eine Art autonome proletarische Elite bilden sollten. Zwischen 1899 und 1914 wurden über 230 Einrichtungen mit 50.-60.000 Teilnehmenden über das ganze Land errichtet; ein Großteil davon im ländlichen Bereich.
