Was die sozial-ökologische Transformation für die Erwachsenenbildung bedeuten kann, erörtert der Autor anhand der Beobachtung eines Bildungsprojekts. Er nimmt dabei eine Transformation des Bildungsprozesses wahr, aber auch der Bildungseinrichtung, der Bildungsakteure und der Teilnehmenden selbst. Diese Veränderungen setzt er in Beziehung zu Aspekten transformativen Lernens.
The article describes how community learning, a special form of adult education in Ireland, generates benefits for both the individual and the society. The authors’ elaborations are empirically based on the reports »At the Forefront«, »Community Education: More than just a Course« and »Sowing the Seeds of Social Change«, conducted by the Irish National Adult Learning Organization (AONTAS).

The article studies the image of adults behind the concept of lifelong learning. Educational policy documents are studied, which substantiate strategies of lifelong learning on a global, European and national level.
