The German Institute for Adult Education (Deutsches Institut für Erwachsenenbildung) in Bonn annually publishes this continuing training statistics, in which data from five large organizations of general and political further training are summarized. The commentated tables contain numerous illustrations to the legal form, personnel, financing and meeting profiles of the training organizations involved.

The article presents the European development of new learning centres as well as educational and cultural centres, in which adult education institutions and libraries continue to merge. The author depicts three examples of these new institutions, which are increasingly becoming an element of educational urban development.
The article focuses on guidance in adult education as a type of institutional talk. Multiple data sources were collected through a comparative case study of two providers to examine how the institutional contexts influenced the guidance. The article is based on the assumption that there is a dialectical correlation between biography and society. The authors develop an analytical category to better conceptually capture the influence of education policy frameworks through individuals’ professional performance. The main focus will be on the life stories of two figures which are pivotal for the development of the Hessian or even German history of adult education: Walter Korn and Rudi Rohlmann.
