The United Kingdom and Ireland offer examples of national strategies, programmes and projects including services for promoting financial literacy. This report provides descriptions and comparative analysis of policy, practice, and access and engagement in these countries. It makes conclusions and recommendations that can inform future work in adult financial literacy in Germany.

The article deals with the importance of decision-making processes referring to professional practices in career counseling and continuing counseling. In the search for strategies to combat skills shortages, employees with simple tasks have often not been focused on. However, making up about 20?% of all employees, this group of workers represents an important qualification potential. It is the purpose of our paper to investigate the question whether expected or existing difficulties in filling vacancies for skilled personnel increase the training activities of firms towards employees in low-skilled jobs. Using the crisis-ridden Afghanistan as an example the authors show the importance of adult und continuing education for the positive development of a conflict region. By strengthening the employability of young people in transition from school to university or professional life it helps preventing frustration, aggression and violence – and thus also the emergence of new conflicts.
