Beratungsstellen und Migrationsdienste der AWO stellen vermehrt Veränderungen im Beratungsbedarf älterer Migrant/en/innen fest. Unterschiedliche Barrieren (Sprache, Information, traditionelles Denken) führen dazu, dass Dienste/Einrichtungen der Altenhilfe nur selten in Anspruch genommen werden. Der Autor greift die Kritik am interkulturellen Paradigma auf und schlägt für eine zeitgemäße Konzeption interkultureller Bildung vor, praxistheoretische Ansätze und Theorien transformatorischer Bildung miteinander zu verknüpfen. »Inter-kulturelles« Agieren und die damit verbundene grundlegende Erfahrung des Fremden können Veränderungen der Selbst-, Anderen- und Weltverhältnisse nach sich ziehen und damit als Bildungsanlass fungieren.
