This article focuses on continuing education for adults with a migrational background in Germany. Based on recent research findings, the authors call for a differentiated view on adults with a migrational background and point out prospects for research and practice.

Migrant organisations have developed their own training opportunities for their employees. However, a qualified provision remained difficult. There remain needs of continuing education, e.g. the development of the organisation and its employees. Here the institutions of continuing education are needed.
An Austrian study analysed the situation of staff with a migration history within the field of adult education. This article examines barriers and enabling conditions concerning the access to the profession and asks for the use of potential of migration biographies for activities in adult education – considering the part of professionals as well as institutions.
The article presents key findings of a study on the attitude towards education among immigrants. The study also covers interests in continuing education particularly with regard to parent education programmes.
To promote intercultural opening as a key process for improving the participatory chances in continuing education for people with a background of migration, their current opportunies and boundaries need to be taken into particular consideration. Several basic arguments are discussed in this report.
