Anhand empirischer Daten wird herausgearbeitet, dass die Koordinaten der Weiterbildung sich von bildungspolitischen Intentionen zur arbeitsmarkt-und sozialpolitischen Ausrichtung verlagert haben. Für die Zukunft wird vermutet, dass die Weiterbildung noch stärker an den Rand wohlfahrtsstaatlicher Politik geraten wird.

Recently, the acceptance of statistics in the education sector has grown. As a consequence of the publication of international comparative studies like TIMSS and PISA, more attention is paid to statistical surveys, as they have brought to light quite a number of hitherto unknown facts. Alexandra Ioannidou describes the present state of statistical activities in the further education sector and outlines what possible gains there are for institutions employing statistics.
The German Institute for Adult Education (Deutsches Institut für Erwachsenenbildung) in Bonn annually publishes this continuing training statistics, in which data from five large organizations of general and political further training are summarized. The commentated tables contain numerous illustrations to the legal form, personnel, financing and meeting profiles of the training organizations involved.
