Das DIE trägt zur Förderung und Etablierung des Open Access in der Erwachsenen- und Weiterbildung bei. In diesem Sinne regt das DIE seine Mitarbeitenden an, Forschungsergebnisse im Open Access zu publizieren. Grundlage ist die Open-Access-Policy des DIE.
Die Abteilung „System und Politik“ beobachtet und analysiert das Weiterbildungssystem in Deutschland.
