Der Weiterbildung kommt aufgrund der Entwicklungen in Gesellschaft und Arbeitswelt eine stetig wachsende Bedeutung zu. Dennoch sind nur unverbundene und partielle Informationen zu diesem Bereich verfügbar. Beobachtungs- und Steuerungsinstrumente, die der Dokumentation, Weiterentwicklung oder dem systematischen Aufspüren von Trends dienen, sind kaum vorhanden. Die Weiterbildungsstatistik versteht sich als Beitrag, diese Lücke zu schließen.

Dieser Beitrag beschreibt zunächst das Konzept und die Methode der E-Portfolio-Arbeit und führt aus, welche Chancen sie für die Lernenden und die Erwachsenenbildung bietet.
