In day care nursery, people without a preceding educational training can be employed after a vocational re-training. For the employees, a new professional perspective and a non-normative transition open up. By strengthening the employability of young people in transition from school to university or professional life it helps preventing frustration, aggression and violence – and thus also the emergence of new conflicts.
Hedonism and body cult have to be considered as social phenomena. They are an expression of the individualisaton of health behaviour and of the search for wellness. Wellness is connected with sensuality and enjoyment in many people’s minds. Health consciousness is influenced by individual experience. Health learning can incorporate wellness and the experiential dimension in a productive way.
Within the process of socio-political transition adult education is an important tool for Eastern Europeans to orientate themselves in their rapidly changing social environment and to find new professional perspectives. Nevertheless, there are many obstacles blocking the way to the participation of all ethnic groups of the former Soviet Union in adult education courses. The article intends to show that besides various objective reasons, e.g. the disastrous economical situation, there are sever…
The author comments on his essay’s title which should refer to a „human being“ rather than to a „migrant“. With examples drawn from literature, theatre and real life he underpins his theory of an increasing malfunction of language as a means of communication. Finally, he reflects on cultural identity and a (German) concept of integration into a target culture.
This article describes the benefits and forms of forgetting from a neuropsychological perspective. By the same token, Peter Gassner shows that forgetting is not only something negative, but rather that it is even a constitutive factor in people's learning abilities. Adult education specialists will find valuable suggestions in the article on how learners can counteract undesirable forms of forgetting, i.e. forgetfulness.
Similar to the literary cafés there is the model of “philosophical cafés”. It first came into being in France in 1992 by M. Sautet. By now it is also recited by adult education. It is based on the statement “All people are philosophers“ and it animates a daily routine of philosophical discussions. With the example of the theme “joy“, the author sketches his experiences as a manager of such a café.
