This article provides insight into the lives of active retirees whose departure from gainful working life has ushered in a new stage in their work-related development. The results of an explorative interview study with retirees working for pay or voluntarily are presented. The article in particular examines the differences between previous work and work-related activity in retirement as well as aspects relating to continuing education.
Teacher training responds to the PISA results with professional qualification of the teaching staff in the areas of deficiency (language and reading competence, mathematical-scientific knowledge, competence in diagnosis and support). Apart from that it must also help school as a system to evolve in manifold ways (obligatory training, school autonomy, staff development, co-operation of schools in matters of instruction, systematical planning of training measures).

Based on communication and body, the report points out modern cultural practices and focuses on options characterised by new technologies which have been established in everyday life and used in various designs. It also discusses the role of continuing education within this process of change. Here, the author refers to the reflection of shaping a cultural identity, the development of cultural competences and holistic approaches – integrating head, heart and body.
The first generation of people with professorships started work in the 1970s.They were scientifically exploring and at the same time working practically aligned. Their educational scientific basic approach to work was taken up by the succeeding generations of scientists, developed further and extended by new topics. The futher alteration of generations lets us await a prosperous development of the panel that is open towards the future.

It becomes apparent in the current critique on methods of competence diagnostics that the problem does not lie in empirical or methodical, but mainly in theoretical deficits. Psycho-dynamic explanations are missing. Moreover, competences are mainly constructed as individual traits while social dimensions are ignored. Both deficits are considerable blank spaces. The article is based on the assumption that there is a dialectical correlation between biography and society. The authors develop an analytical category to better conceptually capture the influence of education policy frameworks through individuals’ professional performance. The main focus will be on the life stories of two figures which are pivotal for the development of the Hessian or even German history of adult education: Walter Korn and Rudi Rohlmann.
