The article outlines the internet development since the 1990s and points out three substantial alterations: 1. »The user becomes the author«, 2. »Private issues become public«, 3. »Everybody is an expert«. On this basis, options and boundaries of adult education on Web 2.0 are assessed.
Using the example of the town of Marl, located on the edge of the Ruhr area, the author points out the significance of the interaction between education and culture for urban development. He also shows which paths a town may take to deal with the structural change.

Work-based training is a significant competence development tool for adult educators. The article presents study findings, which were recently developed based on a need and demand perspective. (1) Based on the data base QUA LIDAT , programmes are systematised. (2) The behaviour in continuing education of e.g teachers was surveyed in Niedersachsen.

This report deals with the significance of the competence model for requirements of daily money management, which was developed in the project "CurVe". It particularly stresses the programme development in the field of financial literacy. In conclusion, the challenges of establishing financial literacy as part of the programme literacy and basic education are outlined.

Self-made is not only the subject but also the designed communication process. Using the crisis-ridden Afghanistan as an example the authors show the importance of adult und continuing education for the positive development of a conflict region. By strengthening the employability of young people in transition from school to university or professional life it helps preventing frustration, aggression and violence – and thus also the emergence of new conflicts.
