The article describes how community learning, a special form of adult education in Ireland, generates benefits for both the individual and the society. The authors’ elaborations are empirically based on the reports »At the Forefront«, »Community Education: More than just a Course« and »Sowing the Seeds of Social Change«, conducted by the Irish National Adult Learning Organization (AONTAS).

Glossar historischer Begriffe zur Erwachsenenbildung
Der aus dem Altgriechischen stammende Begriff bedeutet übersetzt die Redekunst, sowohl im Sinne der Überredungskunst als auch als die Wissenschaft vom wirksamen Reden. Sie ist in verschiedene Redegattungen unterteilt.
Vorgestellt werden Entwicklungslinien und Charakteristika der aktuellen Jugendsubkulturen in Deutschland. Anstatt des früher beherrschenden Appell-Verhaltens der Jugendlichen, haben sie heute ein stärkeres Ausdrucksverhalten enwickelt. Bestimmend sind demnach heute, das Prinzip der Bricolage (Levi Strauss), der zerstreute Blick und situationsgebundene Ausdrucksformen.
