Lifelong Learning, being one of the key issues of the Bologna Process, aims at horizontal and vertical permeability of interdependent education systems in order to be accessible to many target groups. Hence, the recognition and crediting of qualifications achieved outside of the academic realm has become increasingly more important. Despite numerous efforts within the past 10 years national standards regarding this issue are not sufficiently developed at this point. The comparison of the dif…
Participation in continuing higher education has various perspectives particularly with regard to lifelong learning. By arrangements in the field of continuing higher education, universities need to react to changing learning and educational biographies as well as to enable prospects in the context of lifelong learning. An important aspect belonging to this is the transfer of knowledge. Based on the definition of influencing factors on transfer of knowledge by von Krogh and Köhne, the system of…
This article examines learning at the university, which is located in the institutional context of the university with its structural conditions. The analysis of learning at universities opens research perspectives, to which the adult education science can deliver substantial contributions.
The book deals, for the first time, with the further education and training participation of adults in a systematic and regionally disaggregated fashion. The analyses differentiate not only socio-economic and demographic characteristics, but also regional contexts. Some regions show particularities in further education behavior. This study starts from a dilemma which has been observed in adult basic education. On the one hand the use of assessments is regarded as supportive in order to determine in detail the learning needs of adults. On the other hand it is to be expected that persons with experiences of performing inadequately show justified anxieties or resistances in connection with test situations. I have chosen a research approach, which follows Holzkamp’s concept of a subject-scientific learning theory (1995), b…
The present findings are based on a programme analysis of one fifth of all programmes provided by public adult education institutions in Low Saxony in 2012. The study focused on field classification as well as on the analysis of participation portals. Over all, eight portals were developed and identified for the analysis. The findings provide information on methods for addressing social requirements and thus differentiating the educational field – how intercultural education undergoes a delta-s…
Until now, the organization-specific proportion in professional development has received little recognition despite its significance for the occupational biographical professionalization of teachers and continuing educators. The book “Organization as Context for Professionalism” was written subsequently to a research and development project, which was aimed at the educational management of continuing educational organization for the professional development of educational employees. “Reflections on Self-Education” is dedicated to Rolf Arnold on the occasion of his 60th birthday. Like hardly any other representative in the field of continuing educational science, over the past decades Rolf Arnold has provided impulses for the reflection on adult teaching and learning e.g. based on his contributions to constructivist education, interpretive paradigms as well as empowerment didactics. His approach has developed continuously and is now regarded as systemic-constructivist educa…
