In der Weiterbildungswissenschaft hat sich eine Hinwendung zur empirischen Forschung vollzogen. Dadurch werden immer wieder neue und neuartige Fragestellungen an die Empirie herangetragen. In allen Beiträgen werden forschungsmethodische Aspekte im Hinblick auf weiterbildungswissenschaftliche Fragestellungen thematisiert. Zudem werden methodisch oder gegenstandsbezogen neue bzw. wenig verbreitete Ansätze vorgestellt.

It is controversial whether vocational basic and continuing education is substitutable or complementary. This report approaches the issue from an entrepreneurial perspective with a special focus on company sizes and provides empirical results on the basis of the IAB-Betriebspanel (representative employer survey). The valuations of a bivariate probit model also indicate the dependency of complementary and substitutional correlations on the individual company size.
The paper tackles the issue of procedures for the validation of competences, which are used in the tertiary education sector in order to evaluate an individual’s study ability on the basis of his/her vocational qualifications.
