A third of all families in Germany have a background of migration, which offers a great educational potential for family education. The author points out the increased risk situation of this heterogeneous group and warns against the misleading label as a »target group of particular circumstances«. She gives best practice examples and pleads for the intercultural opening of educational institutions.

Although trainers can be expected to be important for the success further of vocational education, there is no regulation of the qualification of trainers in Germany. A so-called train-the-trainer certificate often serves as proof of professionalism. The study describes the topics of those certificates and their frequencies. The article depicts a structural model of health competences consisting of basic and developed skills, which refer to a perceptive-motivational as well as activity-based level. As a contrast to health literacy, the model is detached from the clinical context and intended as a life competence for health. The article also focuses on the empirical model review as well as on the issue of how to acquire competences.
The paper examines the extent to which the principles of biomedical ethics can be used for an ethics of pedagogy. First, the principles of biomedical ethics are presented. Second, attention is drawn to similarities in terms of the epistemological status and challenges in medicine and in education. Possible links between principles of biomedical ethics and an ethics of pedagogy are examined.
There are only a few studies on the scale and structure of on-the-job-training for elder employees. This article provides basic results using data of the IAB-Establishment-Panel. In addition to human capital theory we try to explain the firm behaviour considering rational choice theory, which allows non-economic explications. Over the past few years, various institutional forms of learning centres have been developed. Of these, the “one-stop shop” is the most relevant to the form of cooperation. Here, information, education and advice are all provided at one spot. Management models, structures and the effects of cooperation are elaborated based on this form of cooperation.
Within vocational training, small and medium-sized enterprises are confronted with various problems and challenges. Such enterprises began to initiate and organize specific continuation education programs within networks and other forms of cooperation in order to overcome these problems. This article evaluates such business networks on the basis of an empirical qualitative study focusing on the requirements and preconditions for effective cooperations.
Recognition of informal professional competencies Learning in informal and non-formal contexts has not yet gained wide-spread political and social acceptance, documentation and certification. Due to its individual and contextual situation, informal learning can be recognized via learning results only. Professional competence, including both formal and informal learning strategies, will constitute the foundation for a comparative evaluation and certification of such competencies and abilities.
Older people often lack the competences for the handling of digital media. This is problematic in a society which is more and more based on digital exchanges. Courses of continuing digital education for older people prove to be successful when they are embedded into their living environments. In this article, the author presents several of these educational formats.
