In his presentation, Paul J. Edelson describes the current state of American adult education and refers to historical backgrounds in the process. He examines the "Learning Society" in the age of technology, i.e. the impacts of computers and the internet on education. He also touches on the American further education market and delineates possible ‘pictures’ and approaches to further education.
Little is known about the qualifications of trainers in further vocational education. Some hold a degree in educational sciences. At the same time prospective trainers seem to be part of the target group of programs that specialize in adult education. Peter Faulstich erörtert die Folgen des "Selbstorganisierten, -gesteuerten, -bestimmten Lernens" für das lehrende Personal in der Erwachsenenbildung. Fachliche und soziale Kompetenzen sowie ein vielfältiges Methodenrepertoire sind die grundlegenden Anforderungen an Lehrende.
