The article outlines the internet development since the 1990s and points out three substantial alterations: 1. »The user becomes the author«, 2. »Private issues become public«, 3. »Everybody is an expert«. On this basis, options and boundaries of adult education on Web 2.0 are assessed.
The article provides an education-theoretical reflection of spaces for teaching and learning in education centres. Adult education is defined as a »learning process concerning everyday life«, which requires particular architectural adjustments. In this context, Joachim Ludwig stresses that architecture is by far more than a simple arrangement of building material. Room structures rather contain a »significance« which has a great influence on the »standard of living« for learners as well as teac…
Accessibility – A Didactic Challenge. Steps towards Inclusive Adult Education. Part III Based on the access rights to all public education, the author evaluates the dimensions of accessibility to be considered in planning and implementing inclusive adult educational programmes. Constructional prerequisites are brushed though the main focus is on the techniques of barrier-free communication which are micro-didactically described more critically as a “two sense approach”.
Knowledge and experience can be understood as pivotal didactic variables not only in age-based learning environments but also in intergenerational learning cultures. This article focuses these two concepts and analyses them with regard to their function and relevance in intergenerational learning cultures. The theoretical and empirical findings of a triangulative study will support the argument. By presenting a theoretical and practical dichotomy concerning the use of knowledge and experience i…
How to relate Natural Sciences to Adult Education Drawing on an intensive debate on the improvement of scientific literacy going on in Germany for more than ten years, this article deals with possible contributions of adult education. Starting with the marginal supply of science courses for adults, I focus on typical didactical arrangements and concepts. Based on an empirical study, exemplary didactical concepts are analysed regarding aims, topics, course type, and audience. The results are…
Experience cannot be synthesised – it needs time. This aspect moves to the centre of attention when educational training time is not examined from the perspective of its exploitation, but rather in terms of its enablement. This article conceives of adults’ educational time as a qualitative factor whose content requires structuring. The structure of educational training time is at the same time viewed as a deceleration factor. Deceleration is not understood here to mean passive non-activity, but…
Didactic transition between education and working life This article examines the orientation of vocational training towards “learning areas” in the context of the larger thematic topic of “occupation and education”. The pivotal question around which the whole topic revolves is whether and in what ways the concept of “learning areas” can contribute to a constructive change in the dialectic between education and occupation. It is with this in mind that the relationship between education and p…
On the long journey to a Benefit Contributive Scientific Didactics Horst Siebert and Johannes Weinberg’s texts on didactic issues of adult education which will be looked at closely, cover almost the whole publication period of REPORT. Against this background, the author addresses the question of what contributions the selected texts and, thus the journal itself, made to the development of adult education science and which discussions within the discipline are to be found in it. The author p…
