Case-based Learning as a Means of Professionalization of Teaching Staff In adult and teacher education, case-based learning seems a promising way to foster analytical competencies which play a crucial role when identifying and solving practical problems in teaching situations. Thus, the article offers an insight into established concepts of case-based learning within different contexts for the professionalization (of teachers). Therefore, two discourses will be related to one another: one o…

The approaches to a systematized history of the study of adult education in the West German post-war years which arise from this will be outlined in an account wit…
In the context of lifelong learning, the validation of prior learning has become a contested topic. Views differ about whether procedures should be oriented to (work) requirements – verifying that people match a defined competence profile – or be designed to support people in their personal development. In the latter case, the procedures mainly involve self-evaluation while in the first case they are concerned with external evaluation. In this paper a validation procedure is analysed that inclu…
The research project KLASSIK examines the question of whether it is possible to increase competencies for information processing skills of older people. To this end, training courses that serve as experimental groups, performed a special, metacognitive thinking training. In the project also included comparison groups received no training. The article aims at providing guidelines for a clear theoretical differentiation between various areas of tension in the planning of programs by outlining Structures and contradictory constellations have an impact on the contouring of antinomies and, thus, on program planning. A professional approach to program planning manifests itself in how such professional antinomies are dealt with, in particular. In addition to being of great value to the scientific analysis, this differentiation is also …
Looking ahead: On Challenges, Paths and Goals Interview with the incumbent editors The interview with the founding editors ended with predictions for the future of REPORT. More online- communication, increasing internationalisation, a stronger shift towards empirical research and a committed specialist discourse were the principal key words. These are taken up in the discussions and addressed from the perspectives of the incumbent publishers. Martin Beyersdorf (M.B.) and Rüdiger Rhein (R.R.…
Continuing Education Participation – Current State of Research and Ascertainment of the Subject-Matter Who for whatever reason, participates in continuing education is one of the core questions of continuing education research and practice. Referring to two texts by Horst Siebert and Johannes Weinberg, reflections are made on what knowledge participation research has generated since the so called pilot studies of the 1960s and 1970s. At the same time, socio-demographic and occupational-rela…
