This article focuses on continuing education for adults with a migrational background in Germany. Based on recent research findings, the authors call for a differentiated view on adults with a migrational background and point out prospects for research and practice.

To promote intercultural opening as a key process for improving the participatory chances in continuing education for people with a background of migration, their current opportunies and boundaries need to be taken into particular consideration. Several basic arguments are discussed in this report.
Work-based training is a significant competence development tool for adult educators. The article presents study findings, which were recently developed based on a need and demand perspective. Die Validierung non-formal und informell erworbener Kompetenzen ist schon lange Gegenstand einer Debatte, die stark von Impulsen europäischer Akteure lebt und in Deutschland besonders in der beruflichen Bildung aufgegriffen wurde. Das Heft fragt, ob und inwiefern Kompetenzvalidierung ein Thema der Erwachsenenbildung sein sollte. Wenn die Anerkennung von Kompetenzen als Empowerment erfolgt, können von Validierung auch und gerade Geflüchtete profitieren.
