The study Competencies in Later Life (CiLL) provides, for the first time, information about central basic competencies of older adults. In doing so, two research approaches are combined. This report provides an overview of the standards between professional and organisational logic for adult education – from the perspective of funding and continuing educational organisations, education policy and research. It also summarises various strategies for improving teaching and training, and identifies outstanding questions. It also points out the role of teaching as a construct, which largely depends on the viewer’s perspective.
The article focuses on the historically empirical data of DIE Zeitschrift für Erwachsenenbildung and contributes to adult educational journal research. By analyzing bibliographic meta data, continuities and changes in the content spectre are identified. The compositions of authors is differentiated between occasional and regular authors and compared to other scientific journals. Data on the journal’s reputation in the field complete the picture.
The paper reviews developmental-psychological research on the (in-)stability of adult personality aspects. Big Five personality traits as well as surface characteristics are addressed. Hereby, the direction and the extent of change are compared for various personality aspects, and the influences on personality changes are discussed. Finally, conclusions are drawn for the field of adult education.
In her dissertation, the author collected and evaluated self-assessments of language study travellers travelling with Carl Duisburg Centres. 90 participants were questioned quantitatively. In addition to the expected competence improvement of foreign languages, the flexibility and mobility as well as intercultural competences were increased. The competence acquisition in connection to the participants’ individual ages was investigated in a supplementary qualitative research.
