The German Institute for Adult Education (Deutsches Institut für Erwachsenenbildung) in Bonn annually publishes this continuing training statistics, in which data from five large organizations of general and political further training are summarized. The commentated tables contain numerous illustrations to the legal form, personnel, financing and meeting profiles of the training organizations involved.
The article focuses on the historically empirical data of DIE Zeitschrift für Erwachsenenbildung and contributes to adult educational journal research. By analyzing bibliographic meta data, continuities and changes in the content spectre are identified. The compositions of authors is differentiated between occasional and regular authors and compared to other scientific journals. Data on the journal’s reputation in the field complete the picture.
The DIE Journal on Adult Education (DIE Zeitschrift für Erwachsenenbildung) was renamed "weiter bilden" in 2018. The quarterly DIE Journal focuses on a specific topic to inform about current developments in adult education. It is mostly directed at full-time employees and planners in continuing education as well as authorities in education policy and administration. It is scientifically sound as well as practice oriented - magazine as well as reflection instrument.

Die konstruktivistische Erkenntnis, dass der "lernende Erwachsene" ein Konstrukt bleiben muss, die Tatsache, dass empirisches Wissen über Teilnahme und Nicht-Teilnahme an Weiterbildung zu gering ist und viele Aspekte mehr rücken die Teilnehmenden in das Zentrum des Interesses. Oscar Olsson war einer der treibenden Kräfte beim Aufbau von Study Circle in Schweden Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts. Diese richteten sich an die ärmere Landbevölkerung und Arbeiter. Historisch waren die Study Circle eng mit den Prinzipien der „Popular Education“ in sozialen Bewegungen, insbesondere der Arbeiterbewegung, verbunden.
