Using the crisis-ridden Afghanistan as an example the authors show the importance of adult und continuing education for the positive development of a conflict region. By strengthening the employability of young people in transition from school to university or professional life it helps preventing frustration, aggression and violence – and thus also the emergence of new conflicts.
Anlass für dieses Themenheft ist die derzeit zu beobachtende Entwicklung politischer Konfliktlinien, die Auswirkungen auf Deutschland zeitigen könnten. Konflikte begegnen dem Menschen jeden Tag – nicht nur auf politischer und gesellschaftlicher, sondern auch auf zwischenmenschlicher Ebene. Doch was sind Konflikte eigentlich? Welche existieren innerhalb der Erwachsenenbildung? Und wie kann man lernen, sie zu bearbeiten?
The author discusses options for resolving conflicts based on the two most frequent types of conflict: aggression against seminar leaders and participants expressed by inappropriate conduct. He introduces constructive behaviour in conflicts and describes second order conflict solutions.
In this article the author characterizes moral conflicts, calls for argumentative solutions, and points out learning chances provided by conflict management. He refers to Toulmin‘s argumentation theory and Habermas‘ discourse ethics. Thus, educators can contribute to the success of ethical learning if their institution guarantees corresponding frame conditions.

The article examines the development in demand for the independently creative area of cultural adult education. It also focuses on stakeholders and developments of a new conceptual meaning. The authors particularly call the gender role for independently creative programmes into question and develop hypotheses to explain the dominant proportion of women.
The article focuses on the approach of the VHS Osterholz-Scharmbeck to enhance inclusion in adult education centres with quality management. For this purpose, further needs and requirements must be determined, didactics and methodology developed, and customer communication adapted.
The internet is increasingly used as a space for learning. Guidance platforms, blogs, and video tutorials are available online.
