Unlearning has been established as a phenomenon in common parlance, but has been neglected by educational science so far. Very few authors use the term “unlearning”, even rarer is a clear, precise and sophisticated definition. In this article the author characterizes moral conflicts, calls for argumentative solutions, and points out learning chances provided by conflict management. He refers to Toulmin‘s argumentation theory and Habermas‘ discourse ethics. Thus, educators can contribute to the success of ethical learning if their institution guarantees corresponding frame conditions.
The author points out the cultural technique of reading and writing, which enables humans to organise the thoughts, to concentrate and activate the imagination: Thus, reading and writing are much more than the mere dissemination of information and cannot be replaced by any technology.

The article focuses on innovative school architecture used as a source of inspiration for adult educational building projects. Frauke Burgdorff uses the examples of the Orestad College, Geschwister-Scholl Comprehensive School in Lünen, the group of private schools »SBW-Lernhäuser« as well as the Danish Munkegaard Skole to show different responses of architecture to the individual educational concept.
