Familienbildung ist mit ihrer »doppelten Verankerung« in Sozialer Arbeit und Erwachsenenbildung in einem Spannungsfeld zwischen Fürsorge und emanzipatorischer Bildung angesiedelt. Das Heft beleuchtet dieses Spannungsfeld und betrachtet die Bedingungen und die verschiedenen Herausforderungen für die Familienbildung aus erwachsenenpädagogischer Perspektive.

Corporate case work offers the opportunity to interconnect expertise in both adult and tertiary further education, to commonly solve work related tasks with companies and their employees and to make use of the attained experiences and knowledge through the development of authentic learning material in the form of specific case studies.
The main emphasis of this article is on how to deal with value conflicts in teaching/learning situations in adult and continuing education against the backdrop of current social challenges. Based on the description and interpretation of a case study from an integration course, the author suggests possibilities of how to prepare teachers for acting in a pedagogically appropriate and ethical manner.

The article presents a number of photographs of the Franz Pöggeler estate, which is preserved in the archive of the German Institute of Adult Education. The historic pictures vary between ecclesiastic-monumental architectural photography and simple snap shots and illustrate the differences of learning and teaching arrangements in the history of adult education centres. This contribution focuses on the significance of analyzing learning processes in case-based learning in continuing education. These analyses play a crucial role in finding explanations for the lack of effective instructional interventions. Furthermore, they allow for the immediate review of assumptions on learning mechanisms.
