Im Oktober 2003 hat das DIE eine Literaturdatenbank zum Thema E-Learning auf seiner Homepage bereitgestellt. Die Datenbank enthält Angaben zu vorwiegend aus dem deutschsprachigen Raum stammender Literatur, die in der Zeit von 1997 bis 2003 erschienen ist. Neben Monographien sind Buch- und Zeitschriftenbeiträge sowie Graue Literatur berücksichtigt. Soweit Abstracts zu den Veröffentlichungen vorhanden waren, sind sie mit aufgeführt.

After the federal elections, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research has taken on a new organisational structure. For the first time, its activities in further education are now bundled together in a seperate department (»Lifelong Learning, Further Education«), thus enabling the ministry to »speak with one voice«. On top of this, the superior department is »University, Further Education«, which shows that the two are considered as equivalent from the organisationalpolitical viewpoint.

279 participants in a survey on elearning applications for foreign language learning in Volkshochschulen (German adult education schools) had little prior knowledge. While they do indeed have interest in such applications, they still keep to formats known from their previous learning experience. Die Potenziale von E-Learning sind derzeit in der Diskussion. Vielfältige Studien haben in den letzten Jahren zu unterschiedlichen Bewertungen geführt. Mit dem hier vorliegenden Überblick über ausgewählte Studien zum Themenfeld „E-Learning“ von 2001 bis Anfang 2003 wird ein Service zur Verfügung gestellt, der die Orientierung erleichtern soll.
