Teaching and learning situations are only super ficially described as transfer of knowledge. Beneath that surface complex processes of understanding influence the teacher-learner as well as the learner-learner interaction. Learners bring previous knowledge, experiences and attitudes into the classroom which may facilitate but also inhibit learning; they are not usually invited to express their beliefs, doubts and expectations and make them part of their individual learning prcoesses. The ability to analyze and understand classroom situations through the eyes of not only teachers but also students can be seen as a crucial aspect of teachers’ professional competence. Even though video case-based learning is considered to have great potential for the promotion of analytical competence of teachers (i.e., becoming immersed in student and teacher perspectives as well as applying conceptual knowledge to better understand classroom situations), only a few studies have investigated …
Weaving the ‘carpet of memories’: a zigzag movement between association and knowledge This article presents a didactical strategy in the form of »zigzag learning« which works on the basis of a constant linkage between free associative learning elements (sporadic learning) with a logically structured content (systematic learning). A »carpet of memory« is woven in this zigzag movement which is propitious for learning efficacy. The strategy is presented using an example from school biology cla…
The author discusses the way in which scientific knowledge and results of research are made public. He questions Gordon Shepherd’s assertion that scientists themselves are best qualified for a transmission of their results to the interested public, and rather makes a case for the expert as a mediator. In order to do so, he identifies the characteristics of science versus expertise, and defines the expert as one who, in addition to the knowledge required, also possesses communicative skill, disc…

The actual development of gender democracy as a political target is seen critically by Barbara Stiegler similar to the view of Peter Döge. Transfer of information and knowledge in development of organisations projects The contribution shows with an example of a project, how it dealt with the organisational development of educational institutions and how the transfer can be organised in an extensive way.
Case-based learning with videos is regarded as a promising way to promote the analytical abilities of teaching staff as a basis for their professional actions. For that purpose, the competence to assess and diagnose situations of learning and instruction is crucial, i.e., especially the ability to apply conceptual knowledge to pedagogical cases and to take teacher as well as learner perspectives into account. The article reports on the results of an experimental field intervention study aimed t…
