Students of German as a foreign and second language are often confronted with the problem that dialogues in textbooks rather resemble written than oral German. Oral language phenomena are neglected and generally not systematically presented. This also applies for recent online textbooks. It is a wasted opportunity since multimedia content may be easily used for contrasting formal and informal speech.

This article describes the attempt to reveal the most suitable methods of learning for learners of the German language without previous knowledge of the Latin alphabet (Literacy DaZ Courses). Seven different methods of learning are compared in four different courses so that each syllabus will be mediated in one course with method A and in another with method B and so on.
