Das Deutsche Institut für Erwachsenenbildung verfolgte mit dieser Auslobung das Ziel, innovative Praxis zur Gestaltung von Übergängen auszuzeichnen und einer breiteren Öffentlichkeit vorzustellen.
Die Preisverleihung fand am 5.12.2011 in Bonn statt. Die Schirmherrschaft hatte das Ministerium für Schule und Weiterbildung des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen inne.
