The DIE Journal on Adult Education (DIE Zeitschrift für Erwachsenenbildung) was renamed "weiter bilden" in 2018. The quarterly DIE Journal focuses on a specific topic to inform about current developments in adult education. It is mostly directed at full-time employees and planners in continuing education as well as authorities in education policy and administration. It is scientifically sound as well as practice oriented - magazine as well as reflection instrument.
European migration happens predominantly within the European member states. It is influenced by the target countries‘ work and social systems. In this context, Germany is the most important immigration country, which is confronted by new fields of activity in continuing education generated by the international influx of refugees.
The study text provides an introduction to the topic migration and further education with particular attention to the different educational needs of adults with a migrant background. As a starting point, central terms and events in the history of migration in Germany are discussed.
