Meta-project: Language Education in an Immigrant Society

Research Question

  • What transfer strategies do the individual projects funded under the funding programme Language Education in an Immigration Society: Developing Individual Potential and Shaping Transitions pursue?
  • How can individual funded projects be systematically situated within a broader body of research on language education?
  • To what extent does research into language education in a multilingual society take the phenomenon of multilingualism into account?
  • Which factors facilitate and which hinder the successful transfer of research findings into educational practice?
  • How important is it for practitioners to assess the evidence, relevance and usefulness of concepts when implementing them, in order to ensure successful knowledge transfer?

Project Objective

The meta-project 'Language Education in an Immigration Society' aims to situate the research questions, strategies, and findings of the funded individual projects within the funding programme of the same name. It also aims to contextualise their contributions to the further development of educational practice within a broader academic and societal framework. To this end, the meta-project supports the individual projects and addresses independent research questions. Firstly, the current state of research on language education in an immigration society is communicated systematically to the funded projects through research syntheses and expert reports, thereby incorporating it into academic discourse. Secondly, concepts and findings from transfer and implementation research are utilised to investigate the personal, organisational, and institutional conditions under which the funded projects succeed in putting research knowledge and innovative concepts into practice. This fulfils the transfer and implementation promise of language-related educational research.

In addition, the meta-project contributes to the transfer of knowledge and technology by supporting the funded projects and carrying out its own transfer and communication activities. It also assists the funded projects with their specific transfer and communication activities.
