The author outlines the »educational efforts« of right wing movements and organisations and presents institutions, means and contents. He pleads for an explicit confrontation with right wing institutions and contents and calls for the educational task of expressing the guiding principle, interdependencies and benefits of a pluralistic democracy.

The Grundtvig project European Intercultural Competence Programmes (EICP) conducted at the DIE tests further education measures for administrative bodies that involve intercultural competence, not just as far as staff development is concerned, but also in terms of organisation development. The concept is based on the idea of civilian dialogue and addresses heads of administration as well as representatives of migrants’ organisations.

The article deals with a change in public, political, and scientific understanding of migration and integration issues, which has to be taken into account by organisations of adult and continuing education. Furthermore the present focus on migration and integration offers new challenges as well as opportunities to improve the role of organisations of adult and continuing education in shaping the German society as an immigration society.
