These it exercises in manifold programmes and initiatives, among others in the area of further education. Veronika Pahl, head of the competent department in the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) gives a summar y of the most important initiatives along with the political considerations that form their background. The article focuses on the presentation and commentary of the PIAAC study in the German press. Whereas the interpretations varied in the journalistic and political area, the associations and interest groups agree on the increased necessity for investments in the field of adult education.
Arnold, Rolf; Lermen, Markus: The systematic of the need: „It is actually about something quite different“ For professionals in the departments of adult education the question of the different starting points, strategies and methods of needs analysis, respectively of making information on needs accessible, has an important role on the way into a market orientated adult education. The question of need sometimes grows into a meaning of large dimension, which makes the impression that this emp…
This article explains what paths adults can opt for in order to acquire a reflexive understanding of time while not being content with a purely goal-oriented, “maximising” improvement in time management. Ms. Hribernik adopts Holzkamp’s approach to first of all describe what such “learning to understand time“ needs to involve before then identifying learning possibilities from an Austrian perspective – possibilities which she sees above all in books, but also in lecture events and the activities…

Educational training frameworks constitute an intervention in the context of strategies of the European Space for Lifelong Learning. It poses critical questions regarding the consistency of initiatives seeking to create transparency of activities, skills and qualifications in different fields of policy independently of one another.
Over the past 15 years, a variety of approaches have been developed in (adult) education contexts to validate formal, non-formal and informal competences and thus harness them for lifelong learning purposes. Despite the development, testing and evaluation of appropriate procedures as well as process-accompanying research and procedural clarification processes, a nationwide implementation can not be observed. It can be deduced from these findings that the low degree of implementation of correspo…
Migrants are faced with the particular challenge of gaining acknowledgment and social acceptance of their qualifications acquired in their country of origin. They stand to benefit from a comprehensive implementation of the lifelong learning strategy. The acknowledgement of individual skills and competences should not depend on the individual learning environment. Being successful in the labour market is an important objective for holders of foreign qualifications. In addition, being located in …
